Richard P. Goodwin, Sr.

Richard P. “Dick” Goodwin, Sr., age 89, a longtime resident of Springfield, PA, was called to the Lord on January 10, 2024.

Born on May 29, 1934 in Worcester, MA, he was predeceased by his beloved wife, Betsy (née Doster) Goodwin and parents, John J. “Joe” and Mary Ellen (née Kearns) Goodwin.

Richard was the devoted loving father of Richard P. Goodwin, Jr. (Dawn), Michele Holden, Colette Goodwin, and Eric Goodwin. He was the loving devoted grandfather of Stefanie Goodwin (Marco Klampfl), Richard E. Goodwin, James Holden, and Betsey Goodwin.  He is survived by his sisters, Joanne Dick, Terry Shields (Edward), and Mary Lou Higgins, as well as his longtime partner, Lois O’Donnell and her children and grandchildren.  Richard was predeceased by his brothers, John “Jack” Goodwin, Robert Goodwin, Donald Goodwin, Michael Goodwin, and William Goodwin.  And he will be truly missed by his many nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

Richard served his country honorably in the U.S. Army.  He was employed as an Insurance Executive primarily with The Insurance Company of North America (INA), predecessor of CIGNA. 

He adored time with Betsy and his family in Avalon, New Jersey, his many friends in Fort Meyers, Florida’s warmth and sunshine with Lois, and his many travels to his family homeland in Ireland over 30 years with his “Ireland Buddies”.  He was an avid follower of his beloved Villanova Basketball “Wildcats” and periodic get-togethers with his fellow West Catholic High School alumni also brought him endless joy.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation, Thursday, January 18, 2024, 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 136 Saxer Avenue, Springfield, PA  19064, followed by his Funeral Mass, 10:30 AM.  Interment SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.
