Richard Oppel
March 14, 1947 — February 3, 2014
Richard C. "Dick" Oppel was born on March 14, 1947. He left this life to join his beloved, Joann, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer at the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center on February 3, 2014. He was predeceased by his wife of 26 years, Joann Oppel, his parents, Betty and John Oppel, and sister, Joan Katz.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his daughter, Vicky (Chad) of Westerville, OH, son, Kenneth of Newtown Square, brother Robert (Sheila) of King, NC, brother- in-law, Irv of Linden, NJ, granddaughter, Amber Oppel of Norwood, PA and many nieces and nephews.
Richard opened his own business, Marple Tractor and Mower Service in Broomall, PA, which he owned for 30 years, prior to moving to North Carolina. He enjoyed fixing things including his pride and joy, his 1935 Ford, which he built and restored. He loved to go to antique car shows, especially in the fall. His other passion was the Jersey Shore. Richard and Joann owned several properties in the Sea Isle area, prior to Joann's passing in 2002. He loved fishing, and crabbing, and taking his boat out for a trip was his form of relaxation.
The family would like to acknowledge the care and attention provided by the staff of Brighton Gardens of Winston-Salem. We are also eternally grateful for Robert and Sheila Oppel for everything that they did for Richard during his time in North Carolina.
Friends may call on Saturday, February 8, 2014 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, where a service will follow at 11:15 am at The Donohue Funeral Home, 3300 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA (610) 353-6300. Interment SS Peter & Paul Cemetery.
