Richard Vincent Trefz, Jr.

Richard “Rich” Vincent Trefz Jr., age 81, of Springfield, PA passed away on January 2, 2024.

Born in Darby, PA in 1942, Rich was the beloved son of the late Richard V. and Gertrude (née Geoghegan) Trefz.

He grew up in Ridley Park, PA and was a 1960 graduate of St. James High School in Chester, PA.

Rich served honorably in the US Army National Guard.

He was a true self-made man, starting out in high school as a grocery bagger at A&P. He went on to work at Boeing as a sheet metal worker, and was promoted to foreman, all the while working hard at night to earn his degree in Business Administration from Philadelphia College of Textile and Science, now Jefferson University. Rich spent 30 years in dental manufacturing. He was the CEO of DENTALEZ and the founding CEO of Bright Smile.

He was a true sports lover, especially golf, baseball, and softball. He also loved cars and was unbelievably handy and could fix or build anything that was asked of him; a skill he patiently passed on to his children. He also enjoyed travelling, especially to Germany, England, Ireland, Bermuda, and Avalon, NJ for family vacations.

Music was a big part of Rich’s life and Neil Diamond was his favorite. He cherished the memory of attending Neil’s 50^th anniversary tour with the family – including grandsons Ryan and Chris – with matching shirts to prove it.

Rich was an incredibly generous man. He was so pleased to be able to provide a Trefz family piano to each of his children. While he was driven to provide for his family, it will be his gift of time whenever help was needed that will be most missed.

Rich was the beloved husband of Sheila Trefz (née Hardesty); loving father of Richard V. Trefz III (Francie) and Catherine M. Trefz; proud grandfather of Christopher and the late Ryan; and dear brother of Patricia Bruhin (late Al), George (Ginger), David (Francee), Charles and the late John. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing 9:30-10:45 AM Saturday, January 6, 2024 at St. Kevin's Church, 200 W. Sproul Road, Springfield, PA 19064 followed by his Funeral Mass 11:00 AM. Interment SS Peter & Paul Cem, Springfield, PA.
