Rita Teresa Callaghan

Rita Teresa Callaghan, age 96, of Broomall, PA, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2024.

Born in South Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Isabella (née McDowell) Jordan.  

Rita pursued her dream of becoming a nurse later in life by starting Nursing School at the age of 50. Her passion for nursing reflected her caring and compassionate nature that touched the lives of many in need.  Rita was a dedicated nurse at the Lankenau Hospital and Broomall Presbyterian Nursing Home.  

Her warmth extended beyond her work and family life as she was an active member of Divine Mercy Cenacle. She enjoyed being involved in the community serving as a leader in the Cub Scouts and Girl Scout Brownies organizations and teaching sewing to young people in the area. Rita also enjoyed going on cruises, visiting the Poconos, spending time at the shore in Sea Isle City, NJ, and most importantly cherishing time with her family.

Rita was the beloved wife for 49 years of the late Gerald Callaghan; the loving mother of Gerald Callaghan, Kevin Callaghan (Marianne), and Maureen Callaghan.  She was the devoted and caring grandmother of Kevin Callaghan.  Rita was predeceased by her dear siblings, Anna Jordan, Marie Rush, John, Edward, and Andy Jordan.  

Services to honor and celebrate Rita's life will be held at St. Pius X Church, 220 Lawrence Road, Broomall, PA 19008, on Tuesday, April 16th, 2024. A Viewing will take place from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM followed by a Mass at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery. Springfield, PA.
