Rita Shimpeno

Rita C. Shimpeno (nee Checchia), 92 years old, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2020.

Born in Philadelphia, Rita was the loving daughter of the late Michael and Mary (nee Baselice) Checchia. She was a graduate of Notre Dame High School, Class of 1946.  In addition to spending time with her family, Rita was active in her community and with volunteer organizations. Notably St. Joseph’s Sodality, Lansdowne-Aldan Home and School Association, Women’s Club of Aldan and Editor of Mercy Court Newsletter.  Her passion in caring for others was seen in her vocation as a caregiver for the elderly.

Rita is survived by her two daughters, Maryann Becker (Alan), and Loree Antonik (fiancé Ralph), and her two sons, Robert (Judy), and Michael (Carol).  She was the loving grandmother of Michael, Kate, Luke, Eric, Will, Alex, Melissa, Nicole, and Stephanie and great-grandmother to Tristan, Bella, Caleb, Drake, Maxwell, and Paige.

A viewing will be held Friday, November 6, 2020, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Church, 500 Woodlawn Avenue, Collingdale, PA  19023.  A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM.  Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, PA.
