Robert B. Harper; 8/4/41-6/29/19
Robert “Bob” Blayne Harper, age 77, of Upper Darby, PA, mercifully was called Home to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at sunrise on Saturday, June 29, 2019. He was predeceased by his parents Hugh Herman Harper Sr .and Mildred Lucille Harper (née Seeley), and his brother, Hugh Herman Harper Jr.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Camille M. Harper (née DiGregorio) who he loved faithfully and unconditionally for 53 inseparable years; his loving daughter, Renée Rita Harper Kostik who he cared for and loved deeply; and his adoring granddaughter, Liliana Grace who he cherished as she was the apple of his eye. Bob also leaves behind his sweet “grand-dog” Chloe; they mutually looked out for one another.
He is also survived by his devoted twin-sister Roberta Elizabeth Landis (née Harper) with whom he shared a lifetime of love and endless story and joke telling; his loving brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ronald and Donna DiGregorio; and 4 nephews and 7 nieces (with one other niece predeceased).
He was in the United States Army for less than a year because he was honorably discharged as a disabled veteran. He then worked as a roofer with his father and brother in their family business – Harper Roofing. But the majority of his hard-working years was spent as a mail carrier for the US Postal Service in West Philadelphia where he was cared for and appreciated by the many customers on his route who he came to know well over his 26 dedicated years of service.
Over the years Bob enjoyed fishing and hunting but always with his closest friends and family. He held very fond memories of his years spent as a boy in his birthplace of Norfolk, VA. He was a loyal fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies living to see one Superbowl win and one World Series win. But in the last eight years, Bob’s favorite pastime always involved the countless hours spent with his granddaughter Lily and their family. He placed his heart for the Lord and then family above all else. But worshipping the Lord with his family was for him the best of time spent.
Not long ago when asked what Bob’s favorite scripture verse was he was quick to share: “Well done my good and faithful servant” because one day he hoped to hear those words from Jesus when the Lord called him Home. (Matthew 25:23a)
A private memorial and celebration of life service was held at Church of the Saviour in Wayne, PA followed by a private burial at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery in Springfield, PA.
Contributions in Bob's memory to the American Diabetes Association, 150 Monument Road, Suite 100, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004, would be appreciated.
