Robert James Kenny III "Skip"

Robert James Kenny III, affectionately known as “Skip,” of Altoona, PA, sadly passed away on April 16, 2025 at the age of 82.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Robert James Jr. and Adele M. (Ferguson) Kenny.

Skip served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War, specifically with the 6196th Security Squadron. This unit was an airborne signals reconnaissance squadron initially based at Rhein-Main Airbase in what was then West Germany. His military service is a testament to his commitment to protecting his country and exemplifies the bravery and dedication that he carried throughout his life.

Beyond his military service, Skip found great joy in life’s simple pleasures, particularly in golfing and relishing quality time spent with his family. He loved his annual trip to Knoebles Amusement Resort, which was his favorite family trip.

Skip was the beloved husband of the late Lynette (Rock) Kenny; the loving father of Gretchen Bernatowicz (Shawn) of Broomall, PA and Adele Kenny of Springfield, PA. He was the proud and caring grandfather of Jared Bernatowicz (Sascha) of Bridgeport, PA, Aaron Bernatowicz of Media, PA, Maura Bernatowicz of Broomall, PA, and Emma Bernatowicz of Broomall, PA. Skip is also survived by his dear sisters, Dianne Kenny of Camarillo, CA and Patrice Esseff (Joe) of Camarillo, CA. and many other family and friends. 

A Visitation to honor Skip will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a Memorial Service beginning at 2:00 PM. at the Donohue Funeral Home, 3300 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073. The family invites all who knew Skip to join them in celebrating his remarkable life. Interment will be held privately.
