Robert W. Sullivan passed away August 10th. He was 56 years of age. Born in Delaware County, Bob was preceded in death by his parents, John C. and Miriam G. (nee Sweeney) Sullivan, a brother, James T. Sullivan, his grandmother, Edna Sweeney and twin sons, Tyler and Devin Sullivan. He was the beloved father of Ryan P. (Allison), of Lansdale, PA, Amanda A. Sullivan of Philadelphia, PA, Andrew R. Sullivan of Newtown, PA and is survived by their Mother, Robyn M. Sullivan. Bob was the grandfather of Carter R. Sullivan of Lansdale and the brother of John C. Sullivan (Kathy) of Ardmore, PA and Joseph G. Sullivan (Cindi) of Drexel Hill and uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his friend and companion Linda Hunsicker to whom the family is grateful for her consistent loving presence.
A 1977 graduate of Monsignor Bonner, Bob went on to earn his BS in Accounting at Villanova University in 1981 and his MBA Finance in 1986 at Villanova while employed as a Senior Auditor at Coopers and Lybrand. Prior to that time he was an Internal Auditor for Commonwealth Land Title Corporation and for IU International Corporation also in Philadelphia.
Bob's career took him through many more interesting and stimulating positions. He began working for CIGNA Corporation in Philadelphia in 1988 where he advanced to the role of Vice-President of Investor Relations. During this period he was recognized as "One of America's Best Investor Relations Officers," by Institutional Investor magazine. Bob was Vice-President of Investor Relations for Polo Ralph Lauren Corporation where he advised Senior Management and the Investment Community in reference to the company's Initial Public offering of stock, traveled internationally and produced the company's first leather-bound Annual Report, dubbed "a coffee table piece." He moved on to become Vice-President of Investor Relations for AXA Financial, Inc. in New York and was Vice-President of Strategic Business Initiatives and Chief Risk Officer at Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina. Subsequent roles included Vice-President of Investor Relations with LandAmerica in Virginia and Capmark Financial in Horsham, PA.
A true child of the sixties and seventies, Bob grew up loving rock and roll, particularly Led Zepplin, Jimi Hendrix and the Who. While a student, he spent time working with Electric Factory Concerts, a part-time job that afforded him exposure to many popular musical acts of the '70's. His guitar was a favorite possession and he enjoyed mastering rock tunes while entertaining his family with Christmas favorites during the holiday season.
Bob was for years, a dedicated family man attending a multitude of soccer, basketball, lacrosse; Little League; football games; swim meets; father-daughter dances and recitals. While residing in North Carolina, Bob was a member of Hope Valley Country Club and an avid golfer. He served for two years as Chair of the Research Triangle United Way New Business Program sparking the participation of 150 new companies through a successful campaign initiative that drew local media coverage. His memory will always be cherished lovingly by his children and family.
