Roberta McJilton

Roberta Ann McJilton of Downingtown, PA passed away November 19th, 2013 at Paoli Memorial Hospital. She joins her beloved husband, Lt. Col Walter Norman McJilton, who left us April 20, 2012.
Born and raised in Sparrow's Point, Md, she was the daughter of John Russell Buell and Roberta Lavinia Zimmerman Lewis. After graduation from Sparrow's Point High School, she acquired her secretarial skills at Bard Avon, where she finished first in her classs. She studied piano with E Elfleda Lance in Baltimore, MD and organ with Paul Ray Jones of the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra in Dayton, OH. She studied voice at the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, MD. Bobbi Ann was a church musician from the age of 7 years.
She has been serving as pianist at Thorndale Baptist Church for the past 32 years as well as playing for many local retirement homes such as Downingtown Senior Center, Ashbrige Manor, and Tel Hai Retirement Community where she was residing.
She began her music career as an accompaniest for local musicals at the direction of "Pappy" Newlin who paid her with chocolate bars. She was employed at Kendall/Young Real Estate Law Firm, Baltimore MD 1947-1949. She performed on the radio in Dayton Ohio, once again sharing her immense talents. After marriage, she was very busy as a military wife caring for their 5 children, as well as her parents. She briefly utilized her secretarial skills as attendance officer at Great Valley High School.
Bobbi is survived by her children, Carol (James) Guth of Montgomery Village, Md., and John (Keyna) McJilton, Susan (Jack) Founds, Patricia (Pete) Ciorrocco and Robert (Katie Feldman) McJilton, all of Downingtown; 11 grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive her.
She was predeceased by her siblings, John Russell Buell, Jr and Carolyn Ruth Webster.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing from 10 to 11 am on Monday, November 25, and to her funeral service at 11 am, at Thorndale Baptist Church, 1920 E. Kings Highway, Coatesville.
Interment will be in the Northwood Cemetery, Downingtown, with a reception to follow at Thorndale Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Thorndale Baptist Church Playground Fund, at the above address, would be appreciated.
