Ronald F. Hughes, age 73, of Philadelphia, passed away on December 10, 2013 at Lankenau Hospital. Relatives and friends are invited to his Memorial Mass, Sunday, January 19, 2014 at 7 PM at Dignity Philadelphia, 330 S. 13th St., Philadelphia, PA 19107. Interment Private. Contributions in his memory to The Human Rights Campaign Fund, HRC-Membership, 1640 Rhode Island Ave, NW, Washington, DC 20036, with checks made payable to HRC, or to Valparaiso University would be appreciated. Ron was born in Sioux City, Iowa, son of Kenneth E. Hughes and Jessie May Beatty. He graduated from Valparaiso University in Indiana and served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a professional fund-raiser and consultant and his career included Administrator at Williamson Trade School and fundraiser at the Associated Services for the Blind. He led a very successful drive in raising funds for which he received Dignity's Chapter Service Award in 1992. He also served as chapter Vice President from 1993-1995. He enjoyed the arts, especially classical music, and summer trips to Rehoboth Beach. The Hughes family traces its roots to Joseph Hewes of North Carolina, signer of the Declaration of Independence.
