Ronald H. Witt
"If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away." ~ Thoreau
Ronald H. Witt, 77, passed away peacefully in his sleep alongside his loving wife on Monday, September 30, 2013 at their home in West Chester.
Ron was born in November, 1935 and enjoyed every day of his long life, one he was pleased to have lived his way. He was raised in Union, New Jersey and attended Seton Hall Prep in West Orange, NJ
He was a proud alumnus of the University of Notre Dame, graduating in 1957 with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering and recently attended his 55 year reunion.
Despite his infamous and ironic inability to swim, Ronald selflessly served our country in the US Navy and Naval Reserve. He retired from service as a Commander and was also a former member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary.
He often recounted fond memories of his military and professional careers, including adventures abroad and harmless insubordination, while never forgetting to mention a good friend, good meal or a good time.
Ron served his local community as a little league baseball coach and as a leader for Boy Scout troop #222 from Advent Lutheran Church. He had been an active member of SS Simon & Jude Parish since 1968.
He was a member of Penn Oaks Golf Club in West Chester and played with the Scotchies for several years. Ron liked John Wayne, James Bond, and fast cars; but more than anything he loved to sail. After spending nearly two decades building a large sailboat in his backyard, Ron spent much of his free time in Rock Hall, Maryland navigating the Chesapeake.
Ronald is survived by his wife of 52 years, Pat Witt; his four children, Christopher Witt (Marianne) of West Chester, Colleen McGovern (John) of Acton, MA, Carolyn Dittbrenner (Greg) of Aston, PA and Charles Witt (Sarah) of Roswell, GA; and his 12 grandchildren, Shawn (Laura), Stephanie, Samantha and Patricia Witt, Kevin, Kelsey and Michael McGovern, Jillian, Nicole and Emily Dittbrenner and Danielle and Anasophia Witt.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation Friday 10:30 AM-12:00 Noon and to his Funeral Mass at 12:00 Noon at SS Simon & Jude Church, 8 Cavanaugh Ct., West Chester, PA 19382. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to SS Simon & Jude Church at the above address.
