Rose Rita Otterson (nee Simsic), 76, rejoined her Lord on 12/16/2013, after a prolonged hospitalization following a hip replacement in October of 2012 and a brain injury resulting from a fall in June of this year.
In her 76 years, Rose lived many lives. Born and educated in Johnstown, PA, she received a degree from Carlow College of Pittsburgh after entering the Congregation of St. Joseph in Baden, PA.
During and after her twenty years as a Roman Catholic Nun, Sister Wendelin taught General Science and English (with a certification in Latin) in various Parochial primary and secular secondary schools in the western PA area.
Released from her vows, she ministered to her terminally ill mother, Elizabeth, simultaneously meeting and marrying Raphael Eckenroth of Hershey, PA, before his death in 1999.
While living in Annville, PA and working as a Travel Agent in Lebanon, she met Harry J. Otterson of West Chester, PA. They married at SS Simon & Jude Church in West Chester in 2001. They have lived in Port Deposit, MD ever since.
A vibrant, voracious reader, an intellectual, yet totally down to earth woman, she will be sadly missed by her brother, Bernard Simsic of Finkserg, MD; two nephews, Steven Simsic of Calgary and Derek Simsic of Saskatoon, Canada; various cousins and many other relatives and friends throughout the region, but especially the ladies of the Tomes Landing II Book Club.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Mass 10:00 AM Friday, December 27, 2013 at SS Simon & Jude Church, West Chester, PA, where friends may call after 9:30 AM. Interment will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph Motherhouse, 1020 State St., Baden, PA 15005.
Arrangements by The Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA 19382, 610-431-9000. Online condolences at www.donohuefuneralhome.com.
