Rosemary Casey

May 13, 1923 — July 2, 2015

Rosemary de Lourdes Casey (nee McHenry), age 92, of White Horse Village, Newtown Square, PA, formerly of Gladwyne, PA passed away peacefully on July 2, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. Rosemary was the beloved wife of Robert J. Casey, Sr. Her husband, Bob, always referred to Rosemary as his "Sweetheart". Rosemary was the loving mother of Rosemary Casey Peterson, M.D. (Donald P., M.D.), Robert J. Casey, Jr. Esq., (Ann Delaney) and Mary Beth C. Humbert (Robert J.). She is also survived by her six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren called her Nana. Rosemary was predeceased by her siblings John J. McHenry, Jeanne Grace Jacobs and her grandson Donald.

Rosemary was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Thomas P. and Mary (nee McBride) McHenry. Rosemary attended Transfiguration Catholic Grade School and graduated from West Catholic High School. She played the violin in the orchestra at West Catholic High School. She continued her love of playing the violin as she studied music and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1945. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania she worked for RCA, the music corporation. She also provided violin lessons to many children. While raising her children, Rosemary went back to school to attain her degree in education at Saint Joseph's College. She then went on to get her Master;s Degree in Education at Temple University. She was employed as a reading teacher with the Philadelphia School District at the St. Rose of Lima School for many years until her retirement in 1988. After retiring from teaching, Rosemary volunteered in the Adult Literacy program and worked in the Library at Villanova University. After moving to Whitehorse Village, she volunteered in the library at the village and volunteered at the local elementary schools.

Rosemary married her husband, Robert J. Casey (Bob) in 1948. Their romance began when Bob invited her to his high school senior prom in 1940. What a beautiful love story. Rosemary provided loving support and encouragement to her dear husband, Bob, enabling him to complete his Master's Degree in Engineering and to be successful in his career as a professional engineer. Rosemary raised her three children with her husband, Bob, in West Philadelphia and together they created a loving home. After moving to Gladwyne, in 1973, she continued her role as the loving heart of the family by welcoming seven grandchildren into her home. Her grandchildren share many happy memories of their times with their Nana. In recent years, she continued to share her love with her two great-grandchildren.
