Ruth Avryl McMahon

Ruth Avryl McMahon (nee Stallsmith), 86, of Downingtown, PA, passed away peacefully with her husband by her side after a long battle with HHT on October 13, 2022. 

Born in Camp Hill, PA in 1936, Ruth was the daughter of the late  Malcolm and Minnie Etta (nee Anderson) Stallsmith.  She graduated from Upper Darby High School in 1954.  She enjoyed playing field hockey in high school and met her husband, Jack, sophomore year in math class. In 1956, she graduated from the Keystone School of Business.  Ruth worked as a secretary at the GE Missile and Space Facility in Philadelphia before devoting her life to her family. She was a lifelong Lutheran, enjoyed spending time with her family and never forgot to send a birthday card to her loved ones.

Ruth is survived by her beloved husband, John E. McMahon and children, John E. McMahon Jr. (Chandra), Robert McMahon (Lisa) and Laura Slugg (Matthew) and dear sister, Marian Harrison.   She is predeceased by her children, Karol McMahon and Christopher McMahon, and her sisters, Gloria Sword (Neal), Jeanne Funrue (Norman), Ethel Achuff (Charles) and Joyce Nock (Cliff).  She will be remembered fondly by her grandchildren, Christopher McMahon Jr. (Melissa), Danielle McMahon, Meghan Avellino (Anthony), Shannon Ruberti (Rick), Brenna McMahon, Robert McMahon Jr., Tristan McMahon, John (Jack) McMahon, Miranda McMahon, Micah Slugg, Anderson McMahon and Wyeth Slugg and great grandchildren, Stephen Scales, Joecelyn McMahon, Maeve and Charlotte Avellino.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Visitation 10:00-11:00 AM Thursday, October 20, 2022 at The Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA 19382, 610-431-9000, followed by her Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Interment Valley Forge Memorial Gardens.
