Salvatore A. "Sal" Cavaliere, age 89, of Upper Darby passed away on February 18, 2017. Born in Nusco, Italy, he was the dear son of Giovanni and Michelina Cavaliere (nee Giove).
Sal lived the American dream. He came to the United States without knowing how to speak English. He achieved so much with his hard work and dedication to his family. He worked in Italy, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Lichtenstein and the United States. He spoke multiple languages. Sal was employed as a head laborer for SS Gill, a construction company.
Sal embraced nature. He was an avid gardener, a "Mr. Green Thumb", who could grow anything and everything from fruits, vegetables to flowers. He was a wine connoisseur and made his own wine. He loved sharing his knowledge of gardening and wine.
No task was too menial for Sal. He could fix and grow anything. He was the neighborhood greeter, who loved offering people wine he had made, or items he had grown from his garden. He was the life of the party, always with a smile on his face, who loved sharing many stories with family and friends. He enjoyed traditional Italian dancing and accordion music.
Sal is survived by his beloved wife, Maria C. Cavaliere (nee Teta), his loving children John Cavaliere (Rosa), Carmen Cavaliere (Dee), and Armand Cavaliere (Jackie), his grandchildren Salvatore Cavaliere (Genae), Maria, Alex, Natalia, Julia, Dino, Gina, Nina and Laura Cavaliere and his great-grandchildren Damien, Ariana, Dylan, and Raymond Cavaliere.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Thursday, February 23, 2017 7:00-9:00 PM and Friday, February 24, 2017, 9:00-10:00 AM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike (cor. Lynn Blvd.), Upper Darby, PA (610) 449-0300 and to his Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM St. Laurence Church, 8245 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA. Interment West Laurel Hill Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd, PA.
