Sandra Brown

October 23, 1940 — April 22, 2016

After a bravely fought battle with ovarian cancer, Sandra Lee Brown, 75, of King of Prussia, passed away on April 22, 2016 at home surrounded by her family. She was born on October 23, 1940 in Altoona, Pennsylvania to the late Joseph and Clara Mae (Seymore) White.

A devoted wife of fifty-four years, Sandy, as she was known, is survived by her husband and soul mate, L. Richard Brown, whom she married on February 24, 1962. She was a dedicated and loving mother to her five children, Scott (Heidi) Brown of Chadds Ford, Nancy (Robert) Wick of Middletown, DE, Sheila (Craig) Krusen of Glen Mills, David (Katie) Brown of Ardmore, and Timothy (Julie) Brown of Wayne. A doting grandmother of twelve, Sandy showered her grandchildren with unconditional love, affection, and admiration. Sandra was preceded in death by her sister Nancy (James) Owens and is survived by her sisters Pamela (Michael) Moran, Betsy Shanabrook, and Joy (Frank) Pancoast, as well as her brother Dennis White.

Sandy was a graduate of St. Katherine of Siena High School in 1958. Three years later she graduated, as a registered nurse, from Fitzgerald Mercy. She worked for many years as a nurse at Bryn Mawr Hospital until her children were born. While busy raising five children, Sandy occupied her time by volunteering as a Girl Scout leader at Mother of Divine Providence in King of Prussia. Eventually, she would return to nursing in the role of a private duty nurse.

Sandy's heart was captured by Ocean City, New Jersey at an early age. As the matriarch of our extended family, "Mother Superior" as she was affectionately referred to, was never happier than when sitting on her front porch at the shore with family and friends. In addition to the shore, golf became a great passion of Sandy's. After joining the Glenhardie Country Club, she served in multiple roles. Sandy was the Chairman of the House Committee and the Treasurer of Ladies Golf. Sandy was also an active member of the Radnor Fire Company's Ladies Auxiliary, serving as its Corresponding Secretary.

Sandy also enjoyed cooking, entertaining, sewing, playing cards and dominoes, and visiting garage sales on the weekends in Ocean City, NJ.

The family will receive friends from 7:00p until 9:00p on Monday, April 25th at the Donohue Funeral Home, 366 West Lancaster Avenue, Wayne, PA. Visitation will also be from 9:00a until 9:50a on Tuesday, April 26th at St. Katharine Of Siena Catholic Church, 104 South Aberdeen Avenue, Wayne, PA. The funeral service will immediately follow at 10:00a. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in West Conshohocken.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made on her behalf to either the Radnor Volunteer Fire Company, Attention Box 485, 121 S. Wayne Avenue, Wayne, PA 19087 or to the Main Line Homecare and Health Hospice, care of Development Office, 240 North Radnor-Chester Road, Radnor, PA 19087.
