Stephen “Steve” A. Melnyk, 76, of Downingtown, PA passed away on January 22, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in 1947, he was the son of the late Michael and Catherine (née Dudan) Melnyk.
After graduating high school, Steve served honorably in the US Army. He worked in the railroad industry for most of his life.
Steve was the beloved husband of Deborah A. (née Doyle) Melnyk; loving father to Becky; dear brother of the late Joseph Melnyk. He is also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Steve spent many summers playing hooch by the pool and at the beach with his family by his side. His family also included his best friend Barker, whom he loved taking for walks.
He was a talented craftsman and artist; he built furniture and created beautiful carvings. He was an active hobbyist who dabbled in wood-burning, gourd art, soap-making, baking, and collecting coins and stamps. In addition to being an avid sports fan, he loved watching westerns and listening to Elvis. He only liked movies that had a happy ending.
Steve was a jokester, a kid at heart, and everyone who met him was touched by his light. Though he often pretended to be a curmudgeon, he was a nurturing soul, loving and kind. He cared deeply about the people in his life.
