Steven van Vliet, age 77, of Phoenixville, PA, passed away on October 14, 2022. Born in Amarillo, TX, he was the beloved son of the late Charles and Ruth van Vliet (nee Dancker). Steven was the loving father of Nicholas van Vliet and caring brother of Richard van Vliet, Mark van Vliet, and David van Vliet.
Steven touched so many lives and will be greatly missed. He began life in the small town of Amarillo Texas where he excelled in academics, basketball and as the trumpet player in the Amarillo High band. After high school Steven moved to Austin TX to attend UT where he played basketball and met his lifelong friend Ed.
Steven then moved to Philadelphia to attend Wharton and obtain his MBA. He also purchased his beloved creekside home in Charlestown where he lived for more than 45 years. Steven spent most of his career in real estate, helping people find their home. His most proud project was Four Oaks Farms, an undertaking he was always fond of speaking about and saw the donation of 80 acres of conserved land to the French & Pickering Creeks Conservation Trust.
On the personal side Steven cared deeply for his family, his brothers, his son and his exwives, Trenna, Helena and Annalie, whom he loved until his last day. Steven loved the outdoors and creating special memories for the people he was close to.
He greatly enjoyed spending time with his brothers in the mountains of Colorado at their chop-wood, carry-water cabin. Steven was also an active member of his men’s group that met monthly for over 30 years. Bud, Gene, Jeff, Jim, Mark and Neal of this group were some of his closest friends and will miss him greatly.
Steven touched so many lives and taught so many. He spent his life learning and ever improving. His last days were some of his happiest. He passed away in his beloved home, as he had wanted, during his favorite time of year.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation on Monday, October 24 at the Donohue Funeral Home, 366 W.
