Susan Bernadette Sharkey Startzell

Susan “Sue” Bernadette Sharkey Startzell, 84, of West Chester, PA passed away peacefully on October 8, 2022, surrounded by her loved ones.

Born in 1938 in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Bridget (née Callaghan) Sharkey.

Susan was a 1956 graduate of West Philadelphia Catholic Girls High School. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, going to the “Jersey Shore”, traveling, visiting family, baking and reading.

Sue was the beloved wife, for 65 years, of Lawrence (Larry) Startzell; loving mother of  Cheryl Axsom (Charles) of Houston, TX and Dawn Dodsworth (James) of Estero, FL; devoted Granny of Justin (Josephine) Kate (Jarrod), Kelly, Larry, Jackie, Matthew, Ashley, Brynn (Kade) and Daniel, great-granchildren, Brayden and Henry; caring mother-in-law of Robin Startzell (James); dear sister of Mary P. Wood of Havertown, PA and Ann King (Thomas) of Medford Lakes, NJ. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her sons, Larry Startzell  and his wife, MaryRita and James Startzell; and siblings, Sean Sharkey and Eileen Colgan.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Viewing 10:00-11:00 AM Saturday at SS Simon & Jude Church, 8 Cavanaugh Ct, West Chester, PA followed by her Funeral Mass 11:00 AM. Interment SS Peter & Paul Cemetery.
