Suzanne F. Iserman (nee Fitzwater), age 88, passed away just before midnight on January 25, 2015. Suzanne was the only child of the late Beulah Mae and Joseph Kaylor Fitzwater, a Presbyterian Minister.
Suzanne grew up on New Concord, Ohio, with John Glenn, but Havertown was her adopted home. She was very active in the Adult School program, and participated in many other volunteer activities, specifically the Haverford Township Historical Society.
Suzanne was a teacher at Chatham Park and Coopertown Elementary Schools for many years where she taught 5th Grade Science. As a teacher, she was heavily involved in the teachers union, spending many hours negotiating and meeting with union people around the state.
Sue received her degree in Chemistry, but had a passion for history and spent a great deal of time tracing the family tree. She had a sharp mind and was able to recall the details of little known facts.
Sue, as she was known by friends, was always eager to sit and have a cup of coffee. She is remembered going up and down Sunny Hill Lane, to help with a sewing project, comfort someone, dropping off some groceries or something someone needed at Murphy's. She had many hobbies, but one of her best was being a friend and helping others.
When she was working at a lab in General Motors testing brake pads, she was not satisfied with the results made on the track one weekend when the drivers wrecked all the test cars on the track. The next weekend she got the results she needed, by pressing the cars to the limit, and she returned all of the cars back to the lab without a scratch. She always told a good story, and most people were shocked when they found out it it was (mostly) true.
Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Arthur Iserman. She is survived by her children Douglas Randall "Randy" (Judy) Iserman and Wendi R. (Sheila) Iserman, 5 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild on the way and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Memorial Service, Saturday, January 31, 2015 1:00 PM The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester PIke (cor. Lynn Blvd.), Upper Darby, PA (610) 449-0300. Interment will follow in Arlington Cemetery in Drexel Hill, PA.
In lieu of flowers, gifts should be sent to the Haverford Township Historical Society, Post Office Box 825, Havertown, PA 19083.
