Obituary for Sylvia Ellen Doherty:
In loving memory of Sylvia Ellen Doherty, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and friend. Born on a serene day in Donegal, Ireland on November 9, 1944, Sylvia's journey came to a peaceful close on February 29, 2024 when she was greeted into heaven with open arms by her late family and friends. She was known for her kindness, strength, strong faith and unwavering love for her family and friends.
Sylvia's legacy lives on through the lives she touched and the hearts she warmed. She was predeceased by her parents, James and Teresa (Scanlon) McGarrigle, as well as predeceased siblings, Colm McGarrigle, Eugene McGarrigle and Joseph McGarrigle. She is survived by siblings, Celine McBrearty, Seamus McGarrigle, Dolores Coleman, Patricia McGroary, Una Sweeney, Tony McGarrigle and Deirdre Cummings. Sylvia is survived by her husband, James Doherty, married for 56 years, and she will always be remembered as his rock and partner in life. She will be deeply missed by her children Rosemarie Vannicolo (Robert), James Doherty (Dorothea), Colleen Patton (Patrick), Danny Doherty (Tracy), and Shannon Doherty. Sylvia's presence brought light and laughter to her family, creating memories that will be cherished forever. She is survived by 17 grandchildren, including Sean Vannicolo (Karissa), Colin Vannicolo (Sarah), Derek Vannicolo, Victoria Vannicolo, Stephanie Schorr (Todd), James Doherty, Kevin Doherty, Brendan Patton, Charles Patton, Bridget Patton, Caroline Patton, Finn Patton, Haley Doherty, Danny Doherty, Liam Haines, Logan Haines and Cecilia Haines, and 1 great-granddaughter, Elaina Vannicolo.
Friends and loved ones are invited to pay their respects at The Donohue Funeral Home in Newtown Square on the evening of March 7, 2024 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and the morning of March 8, 2024 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am for viewing services. A Mass will be held at St. Anastasia Church on March 8, 2024 at 10:30 am followed by burial at SS Peter & Paul Cemetery in Springfield.
Sylvia Ellen Doherty will be remembered for her gentle soul, flower gardens, selflessness, and the love she shared with all who knew her. May her spirit continue to shine bright in our hearts as we carry forth the values she instilled in us.
Rest peacefully, dear Sylvia. Your memory will live on eternally in the lives you have forever touched.
