Tanis Lascola Mayo

Tanis Lascola Mayo lived most of her 91 years in Newport News, VA. In May of 2022 she moved into Hershey's Mill in West Chester, PA to be close to her only child Suzanne Burke and her grandsons Christopher and Robert Morris.

She was trained as a registered nurse and worked in the city of Newport News at Riverside Hospital. She also helped establish a program in Newport News to train and certify nurses’ aides.

Tanis was married to Tommy Mayo for 70 years. Tommy died this past December, and it was very hard for Tanis to imagine a life without her husband and the love of her life.

Taught by her mother Norris Lascola, Tanis enjoyed cooking for family and friends and often brought baked goods as gifts especially for her doctors. Tanis was a southern queen and was proud of it. She would stop and speak to anyone including strangers and win them over with her caring, southern charm and accent.

Her faith was in Jesus Christ having become a member of Baptist, Methodist, and Presbyterian Churches. Church involvement was a big part of her life as she sang in the choir, baked for the socials, loved doing children’s sermons, and acted in church plays.

Tanis enjoyed playing bridge for many years with her husband and in her women’s bridge group.  She had a passion for fashion and LOVED TO SHOP.

Surviving Tanis are her daughter Suzanne Morris Burke of West Chester PA, (and her husband James Burke) her grandson Robert Thomas Morris (and his spouse Emily Lind Morris) of Philadelphia PA. Predeceasing Tanis is her grandson Christopher Allyn Morris and husband Thomas Moody Mayo, Jr.

Visitation will start at 11am and the Memorial Service at 11:30 and will be held at The Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA 19382 on Thursday April 11, 2024.
