Theodore Alexander Mondzelewski, Sr., 87, a resident of Fort Myers Beach, Florida passed away peacefully on July 13, 2016 surrounded by his family in West Chester, PA.
He was born in 1928 in Wilmington, DE and was the loving son of the late John and Mary (Manista) Mondzelewski who emigrated from Krakow, Poland to Wilmington, DE in 1903. He was formerly of North Miami Beach, West Tampa, FL, Folcroft, PA and Pleasantville, NJ.
Affectionately known as "Ted" to his family and many close friends, he enjoyed a long career as a mailer for the Wilmington News Journal, Miami Herald, Tampa Tribune, Des Moines Register and Tribune, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Evening Bulletin, Seventeen Magazine and TV Guide, as a member of the Newspaper and Magazine Employees Union.
An avid sports fan, fisherman, barbeque master chef, storyteller, former owner of The Palm Tree Tavern in Tampa, FL, he enjoyed cheering on his beloved Phillies, Eagles and Tampa Bay Rays.
But what Ted enjoyed most was the precious time he spent with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He would often say they were "the wind beneath my wings".
A veteran of the US Navy, he was a member of the American Legion Post 724 of Fort Myers Beach, FL.
He is survived by two sons, Theodore, Jr. and his wife Jean (Painter) of Avondale, PA, Earl Kenneth and his wife Lori (Pais) of Fort Myers, FL; four grandchildren, Matthew of West Chester, PA, Laura Clevenger of Chester Springs, PA, Michael and Christine of Fort Myers, FL and son-in-law JC Clevenger of Chester Springs, PA; great grandchildren, Jackson, Audrey, Torey of Chester County, PA; and nieces Priscilla and Christine of Camden, NJ.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Elizabeth (Betty), 76; a daughter Doreen Joy, 3; siblings Genevieve (Hoinrychs), 86, Florence (Soboleski), 88, Victoria and Joseph; granddaughter Amy Lynn, 5 days.
A celebration and toast to Ted's life will be held for family and friends in Avondale, PA.
