Theodore “Ted” Alvin Roehrig, Sr., age 81, of Newtown Square passed away on Veterans Day, November 11. He is survived by his wife of nearly 54 years, Dolores C. Roehrig (Cooper) and his two sons, Theodore A. Roehrig, Jr. of Downingtown (wife Lori) and Curtis A. Roehrig, Sr. of Newtown Square (wife Jennifer). He also has three grandchildren Drew, Alan, and Claire. He was recently preceded in death by his sister Barbara Swanson VanZandt in August, and his niece Holly Swanson Booth in March 2018. He is also survived by a wealth of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
His parents were Charles A. and Elva Cheyney Roehrig. Born in 1937 and raised in Chester, he graduated from Chester High School in 1955 and Pennsylvania Military College (now Widener University) in 1959, having just celebrated his 60th class reunion. He also served in the armed forces, retiring as a 2nd lieutenant.
He worked for the Philadelphia Electric Company for 34 years, primarily in Gas Operations, serving as superintendent from 1981 to 1991. He was a member of the American Gas Association and Pennsylvania Gas Association, and President of the Chester Pa. Junior Chamber of Commerce. He was also a past president of both the Chester Jaycees and the Rose Tree-Media Optimist Club. In his retirement he became a realtor as well as an usher for his beloved Phillies, and celebrated his love for summer with his family in Wildwood Crest and Ocean City, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Rose Tree-Media Optimist Foundation at P.O. Box 1892, Media PA, 19063. Ted was an active member and treasurer of the foundation, which facilitates and funds local youth projects, programs, awards and scholarships.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation, Friday, November 22, 2019, 9:00 – 11:00 AM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 3300 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073, 610-353-6300, followed by his Memorial Service at 11:00 AM. Interment private.
