June 3, 1950 — June 8, 2014

Therese K. Denault, of Phoenixville, PA, wife of Russell C. Erk, mother of Nicole T. Erk and Kimberly K. Aurand, died on Sunday, June 8, at Penn Rittenhouse Hospice of acute myeloid leukemia preceded by therapy-induced myelodysplastic syndrome.



Born in Scranton, PA, Therese graduated from North Pocono High School in 1968. She attended East Stroudsburg State College as a Biology Major and went on to complete a program of Cytotechnology at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA. She then went on to graduate from Temple University with a Bachelor's of Business Administration in 1978.



While studying at East Stroudsburg, Therese met Russ. The two met on a blind date and married in 1974. On a beautiful Sunday afternoon last week, on June 1, 2014, Therese and Russ celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary at home with their family.



For Therese, family and friends were the cornerstones of her life. She will be remembered by those who knew her for her rare and extraordinary heart, her kindness, her strength, her optimism and her beautiful spirit. She enveloped those around her with her loving warmth. She had a deep zest for life and a passion for learning.



Therese started her career as a cytotechnologist at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, MD for one year prior to moving to the Philadelphia area. In the Philadelphia area, she continued her work for 41 years in the clinical laboratory setting. Therese thoroughly enjoyed her career in the clinical sciences.



Before retiring last year, Therese most recently served as Quality Assurance Manager for Quest Diagnostics Anatomic Pathology Department in Horsham, PA, a position she held for many years.



Therese was preceded in death by her grandparents, Aiken and Blanche Denault of Cambridge, MA and Joseph and Anastasia Grab of Thornhurst, PA, her parents, Raymond and Lee Denault, of Thornhurst, PA and her brother, Christopher.



Therese is survived by her husband Russell C. Erk, daughter Nicole T. Erk, and daughter and son-in-law Kimberly K. Aurand and Justin Aurand. She is also survived by brother and sister-in-law Raymond Denault, Jr. and wife Linda of Clarks Summit, PA.  She is also survived by five sisters and their spouses:  Patricia and Leonard Wincek of Thornhurst, PA; Pamela and Mark McCusker of Hanover, PA; Constance and John Sanko of Moscow, PA; Kimberly and Howard Kerrick of Blakeslee, PA; and Christine and Ken Carroll of Thornhurst PA. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Alice Erk, of Hawley, PA and stepmother Chyleen Denault of Daleville, PA. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.



Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11 at The Donohue Funeral Home, 366 W. Lancaster Avenue, Wayne, PA (610) 989-9600.



Visitation will also be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 12 and 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, June 13 at the Duffy and Snowden Funeral Home in Moscow, PA. Memorial services will follow visitation on Friday, June 13 at 11 a.m. Interment is private.



In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to breastcancer.org  or to St. Joseph's Center for Children, 320 S. Blakely Street, Dunmore, PA 18512.
