Thomas G. Denny of Downingtown, PA, born October 10, 1919, passed to his eternal reward on October 30, 2015. He was devoted to his church and his family.
He is survived by his loving children Thomas, Jr. (Ruth) of Spring City, Lawrence (Janice) of Romansville, Marilyn Gilpin (Michael) of Glenmoore, Eileen Denny Alexander of Mill Valley, CA, the late Paul K. Denny (Carlie) of Coatesville and Richard (Josey) of Coatesville. Also survived by his three sisters Sr. Catherine Denny, Sr. Florence Denny, and Rita McKeown, 11 grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his three sisters Mary Demski, Teresa Simon, and Regina Denny.
He was educated at St. Mary's Redemptorist Seminary, Class of 1940, becoming fluent in 8 languages and acquiring a Master's in Theology and a Master's in Philosophy. Soon after leaving the seminary he met the late Helen Amica Dahms. They were married for 59 years.
In 1945, he was awarded a post by the U.S. State Department as Vice Consul of the United States and sent to Tunis, Tunisia. After returning to the United States, he worked as an executive for Atlantic Refining and Stockard Shipping. He simultaneously began pursuing his dream of directing musical theater. He wrote and directed several musical productions and was choral director for St. Dorothy's Church in Drexel Hill for 8 years. He directed the first musical production at the new Cardinal O'Hara High School where he additionally designed the costumes and created the sets. He then stepped full time into theatrical production by establishing National Road Shows, Inc. He brought the very first musical dinner theater to the Philadelphia area at the Falcon House in Havertown. After many years in theater, he retired but continued his love of art and music by designing and building doll houses, painting, and singing in choruses and choirs.
He will be greatly missed for the love he brought to all those he encountered and especially for his inspiring Catholic faith.
