Thomas Ford

November 13, 1937 — July 22, 2016

Thomas Carroll Ford was born in West Philadelphia to the late Catherine (nee Carroll) from Falcarragh, County Donegal, Ireland and John J. Ford from Bonniconlon, County Mayo, Ireland. Tom attended St. Rose of Lima and St. Thomas Moore High School in Philadelphia. He married Dorothy (nee Fiedler) on June 10, 1961 at St. Joseph's Church in Collingdale, PA. Tom was a loving father of Thomas (Barbra), Dottie Breuer (Ron), John and Matthew (Kimberly) and a proud grandfather to Daniel, Katherine, McKayla, Thomas, Jackie and Matthew. Tom was a dear brother to Helen Swift-McCoy and the late John J. Ford, and a doting Uncle to many incredible nieces and nephews.

Tom joined the National Guard in 1958 and was Honorably Discharged in 1964. While living in Collingdale, Tom served as Commissioner of the weight football program, was a member of the Collingdale Boys Athletic Club and was a co-coach for one of Collingdale's most successful travel baseball teams. During this same period, he served on the Cardinal's "Catholic Charities" Committee. For the past 40 years, Tom was a faithful member of St. Dorothy's Church in Drexel Hill.

Mr. Ford was the Media Director at the renowned BBDO Advertising Agency in New York before serving as the VP of Marketing at Ted Thomas & Associates in Philadelphia. Tom later launched Biomedical Media Graphics as its Founder / CEO. Shortly after retiring in 2006, Tom had the opportunity to serve as Court Crier to the Honorable James P. Bradley in the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas. Tom's professional legacy was providing good, talented and smart people a job so they can have a rewarding life with their families.

Tom was a member of the Donegal Association of Philadelphia and the Mayo Association of Philadelphia, where he served as the Vice President and, along with Dottie, presided as co-Chairpersons of the 2007 Mayo Ball. Mr. Ford was also an active member of the Joseph E. Montgomery AOH Division 65, serving as both the Vice President and President. In 2011, he was honored as their Man of the Year.

Tom's great passion in life was spending time with his family: at the shore, sporting events or sitting on a deck. The venue didn't matter as long as he was surrounded by his family. Moreover, one of the most precious gifts he gave to himself were his many lifelong friends, who he loved and adored with all of his heart. He will be remembered as a devoted, loving, caring and passionate husband, father, grandfather, uncle, son, brother and friend.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation 7:00-9:00 PM Wednesday, July 27, 2016 and 9:45-10:45 AM Thursday at The Donohue Funeral Home, 3300 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19082, 610-353-6300 followed by his Funeral Mass 11:30 AM at St. Dorothy Church, 4910 Township Line Road, Drexel Hill, PA 19026.
