On January 21, 2023, Thomas (Tom) Glynn of Broomall, PA, loving husband and father of two children passed away at Morris Hall in Lawrenceville, NJ. Tom was 98.
Son of James Glynn and Annie Glynn (née Lyons), Tom was born in Meeltrane, near Knock Shrine, in County Mayo, Ireland, in 1924. He grew up as a farmer in Ireland with a knack for fixing anything. He had many skills, including salmon fishing, local barber, repairer of clocks and watches, and helped install electricity in his local area. He immigrated to the US in 1966 and took any job he could get, working overtime any chance he could, as he sought to establish himself in his new country.
Tom met Bridie Fisher from Drumboghill, Co. Donegal, Ireland, at an Irish dance in the Philadelphia region. They married in 1968 and had two children, Thomas Jr. and Maureen. He was widowed in 1976, raising both small children on his own. In 1978, he was set up on a date with the neighbor’s sister, Barbara Simpson, and they wed in 1979. Tom retired from Acme Markets warehouse in South Philadelphia after a career of over 20 years.
Tom was a very strong man both physically and morally. He endured much throughout his life and persevered through the tough times. He was a devout Catholic and relied heavily on his faith. He was always willing to help someone in need. After retiring from Acme, he would spend his days helping elderly and sick folks get to their doctor appointments. He enjoyed spending much of his retirement in Ocean City, Maryland. Tom will be remembered for his firm handshake, his loving and caring demeanor, and the stories he shared from his younger years living in Ireland.
Tom was predeceased by his wife, Bridie (Fisher) Glynn (1976) and sister Nancy (Glynn) Sweeney (2019). He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Simpson) Glynn, son, Thomas (Chrissy) Glynn Jr., daughter, Maureen Glynn (Jason LaRoche), as well as four grandchildren, Annalise and Ian LaRoche, and Athena and Sophia Rose Glynn.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing, Thursday, January 26, 2023, 9:00-10:00 AM at St. Pius X Church, 220 Lawrence Rd., Broomall, PA 19008, followed by his Funeral Mass 10:00 AM. Int. Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Tom would want you to do an act of kindness for someone in memory of him.
