Thomas J. Halpin, 81, of Berwyn, Pennsylvania, passed away on Saturday, August 24th, and will be forever missed by all who knew him.
Blessed with a wonderful sense of humor and a light in his Irish eyes that could ignite a room, he could make conversation with anyone and quickly have them laughing. His warmth made everyone feel welcome.
There was nothing he loved more than his family. He was married for sixty years to the love of his life, Judith. They met in their teens at Mount St. Joseph Academy in Rutland, Vermont. After attending Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, Tom and Judy relocated to the Philadelphia area and began a family: his daughter Colleen Halpin and his son Thomas J. Halpin Jr. (Anh). But the absolute light of his life in his last decade were his two grandsons, Thomas and Ryan, who brought him immense joy.
Saturdays in the Halpin home were always reserved for Notre Dame football, in season. Sundays were for morning show politics, golf, and other sports, all of which would be fiercely debated with his family and friends. He had a passion for reading, spending time on the golf course, and a love of travel, particularly to Hilton Head Island. He spent his career in the financial services industry, retiring in 2022 as a Senior National Sales Director with Primerica Financial Services. The many great friends he made in his business career were especially loved and important to him.
Tom was born October 16, 1942, in Rutland, Vermont, to John and Yvonne (née Thompson) Halpin. In addition to his wife, children, and grandchildren, he is survived by his sister Kathleen Canning (Ray, deceased); his sister-in-law, Rosemary Swinyer (Bruce, deceased); as well as several devoted nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Michael (Emily Baigis) and John (Patricia, deceased, and partner Jane Kupferrer), and his sister, Maryanne Halpin.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial service that will be held at 11 am on Saturday, September 21st at Washington Memorial Chapel in Valley Forge National Park, preceded by a calling hour starting at 10 am. The chapel is located at 2000 Valley Forge Park Rd, King of Prussia, PA 19406. Burial in Washington Memorial Chapel Cemetery. A luncheon will follow, details to come.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the community of nurses and caregivers at Paoli Memorial Hospital for their compassion and care.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a tribute gift to the Paoli Hospital Foundation, which can be made on the hospital’s website (https://giving.mainlinehealth.org/ways-to-give/paoli-hospital-foundation).
