Thomas L. King, age 66, of Newtown Square, PA, passed away peacefully at his home on August 11.
Tom was born in Philadelphia, PA on May 19, 1956 to Bernadette and William King. He graduated from Temple University with a degree in Criminal Justice and joined the Philadelphia Police Department where he served a very distinguished 20-year career. While serving as a Police Sergeant, he went on to receive his Master’s Degree in Education from Holy Family University and was recruited by the University of Pennsylvania as the Chief of Detectives. He rounded out his career as the Executive Director of Campus Safety at Haverford College until his retirement in 2021.
Tom had a true love for sports, particularly cycling, boxing and running. While at Temple, Tom was a decorated boxer competing at the national collegiate level. He was also an avid cyclist spending many days and weekends riding competitively and for pleasure.
Tom was a devoted father, partner and friend to many, always caring about others. He is survived by his loving partner, Kimberly Callahan, Deborah King and their son Michael King (Melissa), his beloved mother, Bernadette King, his sister, Kathleen Campbell (Robert), and his brothers, Timothy King (Cheryl), William King (Betsy), and Daniel King (Kate). Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his father, William G. King and his brother, Michael P. King.
A Celebration of Tom’s Life will be held on Saturday, August 20th at the Union League Golf Club at Torresdale, 3801 Grant Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19114, from 1:00-4:00pm.
