Thomas P. Krehnbrink

Thomas Paul Krehnbrink, 87, passed away peacefully at home on August 7, 2023.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years Joan K. (nee Baker), and son Daniel S. (from a previous marriage).

Born June 2, 1936 in Cincinnati Ohio, Tom was raised by a loving family in Queens, New York.  He received a BS in Civil Engineering from Manhattan College where he earned the top Graduate Record Exam score and graduated in the top 5% of his class.  He received an MS in Civil Engineering from Lehigh University before fulfilling his four year military assignment at Dover and Mitchel Air Force Bases and later continued his studies of Civil Engineering as a Research Fellow at Yale University.  He devoted his professional career to shipbuilding, first at Sun Ship in Chester, PA and then at the Springfield, PA office of Newport News Shipbuilding where he retired after ten years as the Engineering Department Manager of the structural design of Naval and commercial ships.

Tom loved to travel, enjoyed all sports, playing basketball, baseball, and tennis.  In his retirement years, he was a great fan of the Phillies and Eagles sports teams.  He always had a marvelous sense of humor and enjoyed sharing his love of classic movies and classical music with others.  He will always be remembered for his kindness, quick wit, ready smile, and his caring, generous nature.  Interment was private; a Memorial Service will be held at his home at Freedom Village Brandywine Retirement Community at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to:  Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, 8403 Colesville Road, Suite 400, Silver Spring, MD, 20910.
