Thomas "Tommy Mac" McAteer, age 54, of Springfield, PA passed away peacefully April 9, 2016.
Beloved and devoted husband of Maria Spatola McAteer. Loving and proud father of Lauren (Danny Graham) and Thomas McAteer. Devoted and cherished grandfather of Alivia and Emma Graham. Dear brother of Joe (Carla), John, Ann Marie (Jimmy) Tomosky, and Edie (Billy Joe) Petransky, son in law of Giuseppe and Maria Spatola, and brother in law of Pat (Maria) and Adriana Spatola. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph J. and Edith W. (nee Harris) McAteer.
Tommy Mac attended Lansdowne /Aldan High School. He worked as a pipefitter with AMTRAK for 10 years. He then successfully ran McAteer Construction along with his father and son and owned several rental properties in the area. He befriended all the people he met and always had an open door, especially when the 'McAteer Resort' opened for the summer. He loved to travel and spend time with his wife. A fast car enthusiast, he was proud of his Monte Carlo and sharing his days with his son working on the car. His daughter is the light in his eye. Proud of the woman she is and for making him the proudest grandfather. He was a teacher and role model for many especially his children. He loved creating memories with 'his little girls' (granddaughters), nieces and nephews. He had a great sense of humor; love for life, and for his family. He was fiercely loyal, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Relatives and friends are invited to wear something green and to celebrate Tommy's life on Thursday evening, April 14, 2016 from 6 to 9 PM at Donohue Funeral Home, 3300 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073, and Friday, April 15, 2016 from 10 to 11 AM. Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 12 PM at St. Pius Church, 220 Lawrence Broomall, PA 19008. Interment Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory to the American Heart Association, 1617 John F. Kennedy Blvd., Suite 700, Philadelphia, PA 19103 would be appreciated.
