Thomas McCloskey

McCloskey, Thomas James, 80, on August 27, 2014, of West Chester, PA



Born in County Derry, Northern Ireland in 1934, he was the son of the late Elizabeth (Rankin) McCloskey and the late Joseph McCloskey.



Thomas served honorably in the US Army in Korea. While there he volunteered his time to foster orphan children.



He attended Magherafelt Tech College before emigrating to America. He came to the United States as a bricklayer and worked his way up to a career supervisory role as a construction manager in the building industry, including many years in his own business. He attended Penn State University in his early twenties.



He sang professionally most of his life, including a number of years with his own trio, called Greenlough. They went on tour throughout Northern Ireland under the name "Paddy's Return." He played Gaelic Football & Soccer for Greenlough and County Derry. He played in an All Ireland Final in Dublin's Croke Park for the Derry Minors. He continued to play football in Philadelphia for many years. He thoroughly enjoyed the competition & camaraderie playing the game of golf including numerous rounds in Ireland.



He was the loving father of Thomas A. McCloskey (Paula Katz), Sharon Bowman (James), Deirdre Lafferty (Michael) and Patricia McCloskey (fiancé Keith Drinkwater); loving grandfather of 10 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter; dear brother of Patsy Downey, Josephine Hagerty and Kathleen McDonnell,



Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation 9:00-10:45 am Saturday, September 6, 2014 at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 15 E. Pleasant Grove Road, West Chester, PA and to his Memorial Mass 11:00 AM. Int. Private.



A wake will be held at his sister Patsy Downey's home at 76 Clady Road in Portglenone, Northern Ireland on Thursday Sept 25th & Friday Sept 26th. Mass will be held at 11:00am St Oliver Plunkett Church, Clady, No. Ireland and he will be buried with his parents immediately following the service at St Mary's Greenlough Church in Innisrush, Northern Ireland.



In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Neighborhood Hospice, 795 E.
