Thomas Eugene “Tom” McDyer, age 88, of Wynnewood, PA, passed away on January 3, 2025. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Thomas Benedict and Catherine Teresa McDyer (nee Harrington).
A proud graduate of Malvern Prep and Notre Dame University, Tom initially embarked on a legal education at Georgetown Law School, a testament to his intellectual curiosity. However, the call to serve a higher purpose resonated within him, leading to a transformative seven years at the Seminary School of Maryknoll in New York, where he nurtured his devout Catholic faith. Following the passing of his father, Tom stepped into the role of steward of the family legacy, taking over the family real estate business with a dedication that mirrored his faith-driven life.
Throughout his days, Tom embraced the roles of loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin, and cherished friend. He shared a beautiful 43-year union with his beloved wife, Sue, whose companionship brought him immeasurable joy. In their shared laughter and stories, so too grew a family blessed with warmth and the profound teachings of a loving patriarch.
In his leisure, Tom was a spirited athlete, passionately engaging in squash and tennis during his earlier years. It was later in life that he discovered a fervent love for golf, where the greens became not just a sport, but a sanctuary for camaraderie and reflection. As an accomplished private pilot, he savored the exhilaration of flight, where the clouds whispered tales of adventure, freedom, and exploration.
With a reputation as a generous soul, Tom’s giving nature touched countless lives, his kindness being a hallmark of his extraordinary character. His stories, filled with wisdom, humor, and a touch of mischief, will echo in the laughter of his loved ones, creating a legacy that will endure long beyond his earthly presence. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Tom was the beloved husband of the late Suzann McDyer (nee Duncan); loving father of Jill A. Gormley (Thomas), Kristen Suzann Lynch (Tim) and the late John Gamble Hunter (Pixie); adoring grandfather of Matthew Hunter, Andrew Hunter, Amy Skeel, Devlin Lynch, Carolyn Hamborsky, Elizabeth Raine, Noah Lynch, Kimberly Gormley, Robert Gormley, and the late Steven Hunter; caring great-grandfather of Kingston, Hailey, Elliana, Preston, Emma, James, Logan, Iain, Owen, and Patrick.
