Thomas James News Sr.
April 25th, 1938 - May 19th, 2024
Thomas (Tom) J. News Sr. departed this earthly realm on Sunday, May 19 after a brave battle in the Crozer Burn Unit. Tom was the son of Everett and Bessie News. He was born and raised in Chester. He attended the Pennsylvania Military College as a young man but on the death of his father gained employment with the Philadelphia Electric Company where he spent decades filling a variety of roles until his retirement in 1989. Tom served briefly in the US Army in 1960. While employed at PECO he met and married Margeret “Peggy” Del Vecchio, who would remain his wife for 49 years until her passing in 2015. Tom & Peg had two children, Tom Jr. and Laura, whom they showered with love and saw to it there was never a summer without a vacation when they were children.
Tom & Peg travelled the world from the continental US to Central America to the Caribbean and Ireland. Tom’s great love was his family, golf, Eagles football, and Flyers hockey. Tom and Peg, as Flyers’ season ticket holders, were at The Spectrum to witness the Flyers’ winning The Stanley Cup in 1974.
Tom is survived by his two children Tom News Jr. and Laura Ryan (nee News), their spouses RoseAnne Ippolito-News and Joseph Ryan Jr, and 11 grandchildren, James “Jamie” News, Michael (Taylor nee Seward), Ally, and Lyndsay Ryan, and Madelynne, Kyra, Ethan, Devon, Owen, Amber, Avery News, and his beloved grand dog Moose. He also leaves behind many friends from his days at PECO, golf buddies, and fellow AMVETS and American Legion members.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing on Tuesday May 28th, 2024 from 10:00AM to 11:00AM followed by his 11:00AM Funeral mass at Our Lady of Fatima parish, 1 Fatima Drive, Secane, PA 19018. Interment will be at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery.
