Thomas John Preston

Thomas John “Tom” Preston, age 88, of Ridley Park, PA, passed away on March 30, 2025. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late William and Mary Preston (nee Stouffer).

He dedicated his career to the noble craft of bricklaying and masonry as a proud member of Local #1, where his skill and steadfast dedication will long be remembered.

Tom's life was adorned with moments of joy and adventure. He had an insatiable love for travel, eagerly undertaking journeys to quaint small towns, often relishing the open road with a passion that only a true wanderer could possess. Those who knew him will fondly recall the countless rides he took, always with an infectious spirit that lifted the hearts of his family and friends.

His devotion to his family was one of the most defining aspects of his life. A loving husband for 70 blessed years, he met his beloved wife while working as a soda jerk, a serendipitous encounter that blossomed into a lifelong love story. Together, they created a nurturing home filled with warmth and laughter. Tom was particularly fond of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who were the light of his life. His love for them was immeasurable, and he took every opportunity to instill in them values of kindness and resilience.

Tom's simplicity and joy were often encapsulated in the little pleasures of life, such as his cherished Tastykakes. These delightful treats would often serve as a sweet reminder of his playful spirit, bringing smiles to the faces of those around him.

Tom was the beloved husband of Elizabeth Preston (nee Desko) and loving father of Elizabeth Kaufman (Robert), Mary Dina (Richard), Deborah Preston, Jean McKinney (Wayne), Thomas Preston (Donna), John Preston (Mary), and Kathy Hagy (Paul). Also survived by 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly. Predeceased by his 11 brothers and sisters.

Family and friends are invited to Tom’s Viewing 10:00-11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 8th at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 1 Fatima Dr., Secane, PA 19018, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment SS Peter & Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.
