Thomas Voorhees

April 22, 1953 — May 21, 2016

Thomas S. Voorhees (aka 'Ferd'), age 63, of Chester Springs, PA, formerly of Drexel Hill, Aston and Upper Chichester, PA, passed away on May 21, 2016. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Charles and Elizabeth Voorhees (nee Turner).



Tom attended Upper Darby High School and served in the U.S. Army in Germany. He was a Journeyman Carpenter with Union Local 845 and worked on projects as varied as scaffolding of refinery tanks, the Philadelphia Airport extension, store construction and remodeling across the region including the Disney Store in Springfield, and for several years he worked building the sets at the Flower Shows and Car Shows at the Philadelphia Convention Center. He retired in 2013.



Tom enjoyed spending time with his family and dogs, and throughout his life was an accomplished outdoorsman: hunting in Sullivan County, PA; fishing the Crum/Ridley/Chester Creeks of Delaware County, canoe-fishing on the Brandywine River; fly fishing for salmon in the St. Lawrence River in NY, surf fishing at Island Beach State Park, NJ, hiking the remaining wild areas at Ridley Creek State Park, camping at Otter Creek and Raystown Lake and in recent years gardening and keeping chickens at home. He liked riding motorcycles, visiting lighthouses and traveling (especially Jamaica).



Tom was predeceased by his siblings Debra, Donald and Barbara. He is survived by his children Tom Voorhees, Erik Voorhees (fianceé Sarah Murphy), his grandchildren Nicholas, Erik Jr., Scarlett Rose and Aiden Voorhees, his nephew David Voorhees, his close friend Steve, and his dogs Missy and Magua.
