Valerie DeFino

September 24, 1950 — August 10, 2024

Newtown Square, PA

Valerie DeFino, age 73, of Newtown Square, PA, sadly passed away on August 10, 2024.

Born in Pittsburgh, PA, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Sophia P. (née Liberto) Burlett.

Valerie was known for her intelligence, wit, and unwavering loyalty. Being Catholic and attending Catholic School were the catalysts that shaped Valerie’s life into being the kind, compassionate person that she was. Her radiant smile and vibrant personality shone through all aspects of her life, bringing joy to those around her and creating an atmosphere of love and acceptance and always lending a sympathetic ear.

Valerie studied at the Sorbonne University in Paris, France and had a love of the French language and her French heritage. Her career as a French Teacher allowed her to share her passion for the language and culture with a number of students.

She introduced her children at an early age to the love of international travel and experiencing other cultures. She especially enjoyed trips to Europe, Cuba, and Casa de Campo. On one of their family trips, Valerie had the great honor of being blessed by Pope John Paul II at the Vatican.

Going for leisurely walks, immersing herself in all things French, enjoying music with a penchant for classic rock and playing the piano, were some other of Valerie’s hobbies and interests. She was a voracious reader (bookworm) who loved learning all subjects. She loved Turkish soap operas and any trivia (best asset on any team)! She also enjoyed sipping a cosmo, admiring sunsets, baking traditional Easter Breads and bouche de Noel, and was also a loyal Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

Valerie was known for making every family birthday a special occasion, cherishing above all the time spent with her children, grandchildren, and her friends.

Valerie is survived by her beloved husband, Michael DeFino, Esq., her loving children, Jacqueline B. Sutter, D.O. (Mark) and Jonathan B. Sutter, D.O. (Leslie); her dear step-children, Christian DeFino (Amanda) and Jennifer Pavlovitz (John); and her 6 cherished grandchildren, Jonathan, Juliette, Cameron, Rocco, Noah, and Selah. She is also survived by her caring siblings, Francis J. Burlett (the late Evelyn) and Gregory A. Burlett (the late Mary), and her 3 nieces, Arielle, Lauren, and Michelle.

A Visitation in remembrance of Valerie will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024, 10:30 to 11:30 AM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 3300 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073, 610-353-6300, followed by her Funeral Service at 11:30 AM. Interment will be held privately.
