Valerie T. McFillin

Valerie Tanner McFillin formerly of West Chester and Overbrook Farms passed away December 15, 2023.

Born in Philadelphia she was the daughter of the late F. Burke and Rita Tanner. She spent her happy childhood with her loving sisters Carol and Gayle in Penn Wynne. Their house was a favorite spot of their many friends and family. Valerie’s friends from Penn Wynne elementary school still remain close to this day. After graduating from Lower Merion High School, Valerie attended Gwynedd Mercy College.

After many years as a homemaker, a job that she cherished and loved, Valerie went to work at St. Joseph’s University and Weston. Valerie was adored by her loving husband David C. McFillin. Their love story spanned over 40 years. Together they built a beautiful life and raised four sons, twelve grandchildren and one great-grandson. She was lovingly known as “Maymie”. She cherished being a grandmother and was an active participant in all of their lives.

Valerie was the beloved wife of the late David C. McFillin; loving mother to David C. McFillin, Jr. (Linda), F. Burke McFillin (Kim), Christopher L. McFillin (Rachael), Andrew T. McFillin (Katie); adoring grandmother of David, III, Thomas, Burke, Mary, Will, Anna, Danny, Tanner, Michael, Ryan, Molly, and Matt and great-grandmother to David C. McFillin, IV, dear sister of Carol Toland (John) and Gayle Trombetta (Vince); sister-in-law to the late James F. and Patricia J. McFillin and C. Frederick and Deborah Horstmann and Aunt to many beloved nieces and nephews.

Relatives and Friends are invited to her Visitation Friday morning December 22 from 9:30 to 10:45 AM at Saints Peter and Paul Church 1325 Boot Road, West Chester, Pa 19380, followed by her funeral mass at 11:00 AM. Interment at Calvary Cemetery.
