We are so sad to announce the death of our beloved Mom, Virginia (D’Angelo) Ochs.
Our mom made the most of the eighty-six years given to her.
In 1937, Mariano and Margaret D’Angelo brought “Cookie” home to four siblings, Marion, Joe, Tootsie (Lou), and Jimmy.
There were hijinks and Italian celebrations to go along with the economically challenging years. A big extended family added to the fun.
A 1957 road trip to Florida following a big, beautiful Italian wedding was the beginning of her life together with Albert Kenneth Ochs, “Albie” to us. They shared 52 years together facing good and bad times. They shared many happy times and vacations with Albie’s sister, Rosemarie and Bob.
Mom was a wonderful role model for us, her children, Karen, Susan, Annemarie, and Chris. Our life with her included happy and silly times, including the time she made Chris a sculpted hot dog cake for his birthday. Mom was a superior cook so Christmas Eve fish dinners were cooking marathons she pulled off with style and grace. Especially when she had 4 kids under the age of 7. She could be a tough task master and made sure we behaved the correct way. The threat of “the spoon” was good incentive for us to do the right thing, although, in reality, all she had to do was shake the drawer handle!
As we married, she welcomed Mark Aigeldinger, Tom Geddes, and Patty Schaeffer, warmly into our family. Patrick (Sara Purcell) and Evan (Angela) Aigeldinger, Adam, Morgan (Taylor Marion) and Cara Ochs, and Ana and Emma Geddes, had the best “Grammie.” She loved them unconditionally and looked forward to the time spent with them.
Mom cherished her relationships with our aunts and cousins. Our Mom was a woman of style and grace who loved a fashion bargain! She was a woman who faced challenges big and small, with grace and dignity. A woman who changed and grew as she took on new interests and hobbies. A woman who was warm and friendly as well as kind and compassionate.
Mom became our most treasured memory on January 14, 2024. She will live on in our hearts forever and in our children.
A Celebration of Cookie’s Life will be held on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at 12:00 PM at the Springfield Country Club, 400 W. Sproul Road, Springfield, PA 19064.
