Whitney Grogan-Vega was born on December 18, 1991, in Syracuse, NY to parents Susan Francisco and Michael Grogan. Through childhood, she was educated in Rome City Schools, graduating from Rome Free Academy in 2010.
Whitney received her Associate of Science degree from Mohawk Valley Community College in 2012, embarking on an adventure to California soon after. She then moved to Philadelphia to be with the love of her life later that year. She graduated with her Bachelor’s degree from Wilmington University in 2018, with a Certificate in Childhood Advocacy Studies. With a love of learning, she pursued an MPH at Drexel University, where she graduated with a concentration in Global Health. While studying for her degree, she worked at Bayada Home Health Care.
In November 2023 she began her dream job as a Clinical Research Coordinator at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Her greatest motivation was “to help the children of Philadelphia.” Her life’s purpose was to help people. With a heart as big as the world, she had a passion for the underdog, feeding the unhoused man who lived next to her apartment and buying breakfast for a wounded vet. She cared deeply about social inequities and fiercely advocated for the marginalized and under-served. She is survived by her husband, Nicolas Vega, her mother, Susan Francisco, her father and step-mother, Michael & Deborah Grogan, her mother-in-law, Silvia, sister-in-law, Cherokee Hunt, her siblings, Michael & Jacqui, Deborah’s children, Brittany & Zachary, and of course, her pets, Marceline, BMO, and Peebles. She is also survived by her special Aunt Cindy, her cousins, Lisa & Jimmy, and her best friends, Alex Medlin II, Brianna King, and Shelby Dillman.
While she would abhor sympathy, we ask that when you think of Whitney, instead of sorrow please do a good deed in her honor; making the world a better place was her ultimate goal.
In lieu of flowers please donate to your favorite charity in her name.
