William G Bower Jr., 90, of West Chester, PA, passed away peacefully at home on November 1, 2022.
Born March 14, 1932 in Philadelphia, PA, to William G Bower Sr. and Miriam (nee Kitchen) Bower.
Bill grew up in Havertown, PA. and graduated from Haverford HS, with the class of 1950 along with his brother Bobby. After serving his country in the United States Army, Bill graduated from The University of Pennsylvania (Wharton) in 1958. While at Penn he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity, played football for the legendary George Munger and earned his varsity letter playing for Penn’s golf team.
Bill started his career in sales with Addressograph Multigraph in Philadelphia, PA. He later moved on to a long career with MCI Communications in New York, NY, serving in a leadership role during the developmental stages of the telecom industry. Bill retired after selling a Medical Supply and Industrial Hardware business that he formed with a pair of lifelong friends and enjoyed “Retirement” working with youth at the Glen Mills Golf Club for many years.
Bill loved everything outdoors, his lifelong passion for golf, hunting and fishing took him from the links in Ireland to the mountains of Alaska. He enjoyed many long hunts and 19th holes with friends and family. He was a long time member of Rolling Green Golf Club and Windmill Springs Farm. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren’s athletic activities. He was a staunch supporter of The University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia Eagles, and Philadelphia Phillies.
Bill is survived by his children Beth Gardner, Randy Bower (Ginna), Bradley Bower, Julie Edwards; his grandchildren Morgan Bower, Megan Edwards, Alexandra Bower, Michael Bower, Emily Bower, Brooks Bower; and his long time companion Mary Ann Schmidt. Bill was preceded in death by his siblings Robert White Bower and Joan Ann Coale.
Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation at 1:00 PM followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at The Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA 19382.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Episcopal Academy Jeffrey A. Coale Memorial Fund at 1785 Bishop White Drive, Newtown Square, PA 19073-1300.
