William B. “Duff” Duffy, 94 of Havertown Pennsylvania, passed away on October 21, 2019, surrounded by his family.
Born in Philadelphia on August 27, 1925, he was the son of the late, Daniel and Dora Duffy. William graduated from St Thomas Moore High School in June of 1943. He enlisted in the US Navy in August 1943 where he served in the Pacific and European Theaters as a radar man on the USS William Seiverling Destroyer and was awarded the European Theater Ribbon, Pacific Theater Ribbon (4 Stars), American Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon (1 Star).
William married the love of his life, Theresa "TC" Duffy (nee Hyland) in 1953. He and Theresa moved to Havertown where they raised their family and were active members of the Sacred Heart parish.
A milkman for most of his career, William frequently spoke of serving milk throughout the Philadelphia neighborhoods and told stories about his horse, Pete, who pulled the wagon. He would swear Pete knew the sound of his footsteps when he arrived at the stable in the morning as Pete’s ears would perk up knowing it was him.
William loved sports of all kind and although he had a complicated relationship with the Phillies he loved watching the games and could tell in an instant when a batter got a base hit. Most of all, William loved spending time with his family in Sea Isle City, where he spent vacations and summers since 1950. He loved the beach, his early morning bike rides on the Promenade and sitting on the front porch with a cup of coffee.
William was the beloved husband of the late Theresa A. “TC” (nee Hyland) Duffy; the loving father of William E. “Biff” Duffy (Linda), Beth Ann Riordan (Michael), Ed Duffy (Maureen), Kerry Shawn Duffy, Terri Lynn Alizzi (John), Anita DeFrancesco (Frank) and Shannon Duffy (Ryan King); devoted grandfather of Biff, Colleen, Ryan, Danielle, Katie (Francisco), Michael, Kevin (Abby), Taylor, Elizabeth, Maura, Ed, Sean, Christine, John Robert, Nicholas, Michael; and proud great-grandfather of Karyssa, Jaxon, Lucy and Olivia. He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters: Daniel Duffy, Rosemary Lenahan, Agatha Pettit, Edward Duffy, Richard Duffy and Dorothy Duffy.
