William Miller, loving husband and father of two, passed away on October 16, 2022 at the age of 74.
Bill was born on November 11, 1947 to Mildred Lindemuth Miller and Harold Miller in Philadelphia, PA. He was a lifetime fan of the Eagles and Phillies and played both football and baseball as a youth. After graduating from John Bartram High School, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in Germany on the Army baseball team and in Vietnam with the 173rd Airborne Brigade.
Bill spent his career working as a lineman for Bell Telephone and later Verizon. He joined the crew that traveled to Florida to assist with recovery efforts following Hurricane Andrew in 1992 and a few years later to New England when ice storms devastated the area.
Growing up, Bill’s twin daughters remember that some area of their family’s home was always under construction. He enjoyed woodworking and kept a shop in the basement, refinishing furniture and paneling constantly. Friday nights were reserved for dance parties to the retro jukebox stocked with Motown singles that Bill bought himself by saving pennies in a jar. Always a friend of animals, Bill helped to rescue an oversized feral tuxedo cat during the extreme winter of 1995. “Blackie” became his beloved pet and companion for many years.
Bill is survived by his wife Joanne Capelli Miller; daughters Heather Miller Lardin and Jennifer Martin; grandchildren Kai, Joshua, and Anna; sisters Nancy Bowman and Karen Leisner; and sons-in-law Cliff Lardin and Daniel Martin.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 4 at 11:30 am at Church of the Good Shepherd, 1116 W. Lancaster Avenue, Rosemont PA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Providence Animal Center. https://providenceac.org/
