William A. “Bill” Hicks, 64, of Wayne, PA passed away on December 1, 2022. Born on June 16, 1958 to the late Alfred J. and Patricia M. (nee Finneran) Hicks.
William was the beloved husband of Nancy W. (nee White) Hicks; loving father of Patrick Hicks (Paige), Molly York (Daniel), Hannah Hicks (Thomas), Austin Hicks (fiancé Julia), and Andrew Hicks; caring grandfather of Holden, Emma, and Libby; and dear brother of Suzanne Longo (Robert), Kathleen Ruffin (Sam), Patricia Hicks, Nancy Kiolbasa (Joseph), Daniel Hicks (Dara), and Mark Hicks (Kim). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Bill was born in Shaker Heights, Ohio - the third born and oldest son of seven children. He graduated from Shaker Heights High School in 1977 and moved to Baltimore with his family to graduate from Towson University where he made lifelong friendships and later attended Johns Hopkins University.
On January 18, 1985, Bill met Nancy and the two were married on November 8th, 1986. They were inseparable ever since, sharing with and supporting each other at every step of the journey of life. They recently celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary surrounded by family.
Bill spent more than 30 years in the IT industry, starting his career as a marketing representative for a computer and telecommunications company. In 1985, the same year he met Nancy, he started at Arthur Andersen and was admitted to the partnership in 1997 - where he was the practice lead for Andersen’s Central Pennsylvania and Baltimore business consulting services.
Bill cherished his time, colleagues, and clients at Arthur Andersen. He continued to work with these and others of his numerous connections (to whom he was always ready to lend a helping hand) until his passing.
Many knew him as “Potter Bill” and still have a few mugs in their cabinets. His saying was “quantity not quality” and he would always have a mug ready to give as a gift. He loved giving away his pottery to anyone he met.
Bill is leaving behind a beautiful legacy in his children and grandchildren - he was always ready to help and guide them through anything they needed. When they were younger, he always made time on ‘Dad-urdays’ to go to the park, and as they grew older he loved getting the extended family together for a night of competitive board games.
He was so proud of each and every one of his children and loved to share their accomplishments with his friends and colleagues.
For Bill, his faith was of utmost importance. Bill was part of many prayer groups, sang in the church choir, taught CCD, and attended and led countless retreats. He was thankful for each and every day that God gave him. And in every moment, he looked for what new joys God wanted him to see, experience, and share with others.
Relatives and friends are invited to Bill’s Visitation on Friday, December 9, 2022 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 366 West Lancaster Avenue, Wayne, PA 19087 and to his Funeral Mass on Saturday at 10:30 AM at St. Isaac Jogues Church, 50 W Walker Rd, Wayne, PA 19087.
