William P. Horan, age 80, of Havertown, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on the morning of August 29, 2016.
Bill was born in Philadelphia to William and Winifred Horan on December 9, 1935. He was one of four children living in their West Philadelphia home on Cedar Avenue that was a gathering place for family and friends that always provided love, friendship and laughter. Bill was a graduate of West Catholic High School for Boys, Class of 1953. He went on to earn a degree in business from Villanova University, graduating in 1959. After graduation, Bill married his love, Peggy McIntyre, and together they raised five children in their Drexel Hill home on Vernon Road.
Bill was widely respected for his character, good nature and love of life. He shared these qualities with many young people coaching football and basketball at St. Charles Borromeo for many years. Bill also enjoyed holding the chains at Monsignor Bonner football games for 37 years. He often said, he had the best seat in the house. Bill's positive and encouraging approach to life has greatly impacted all that came in contact with him. His humility and kindness were the mark of a true gentleman. Bill will surely be missed.
Bill is the beloved husband of Joan (nee Stefan) and the late Peggy (nee McIntyre). Beloved father of Daniel (Gretchen), Helene Arriviello (the late Brian), William (Tricia), Peggy Huf (Jim) and Michael (Katie) Horan. Dear brother of Dolores McCaughan, Winifred and the late Theresa Horan. Also survived by 14 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing at The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA (610) 449-0300 on Thursday, September 1, 2016 from 5 to 9 PM. There will be a Funeral Mass at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 3422 Dennison Avenue, Drexel Hill, PA, on Friday, September 2, 2016 at 10:30 AM. Interment Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken, PA.
