William Kirrane

William J. Kirrane, age 87, of Drexel Hill, PA, formerly of the Northwood section of Philadelphia, PA, passed away on October 7, 2016. William was the son of the late William J. and Della Kirrane (nee Ferrick).
William was a graduate of North Catholic High School, received his undergraduate degree from Villanova University and a graduate degree in International Economics and Finance from Temple University, having earned academic honors at both schools. Bill spent his working career in the Philadelphia area. He was Director of Taxes in the International Division of Smith, Kline and French (now GlaxoSmithKline). He spoke at numerous tax conferences and seminars and had several articles on taxation published.
He taught Taxation and Finance at Villanova and Drexel Universities at the undergraduate and graduate levels. He was a member of the Tax Executives Institute and Chairman of its Foreign Tax Committee and was a co-founder of the Philadelphia International Tax Discussion Group.
Bill spent two years in the United States Army as a Master Sergeant, during the Korean War Era in charge of directing fire of long range artillery guns. He had a lifelong interest in sports. He played football in high school and also with the Bridesburg Eagles. In his younger years, he played tennis and was an avid fan of college basketball, especially Villanova.
In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his sisters Dorothy Kirrane Miller, Nancy Kirrane and Joan Kirrane Sproat. He is survived by his cherished friend, Alana Galetski, and many nieces and nephews.
