Born to Joseph P. Rogers, Sr and Josephine Riddle Rogers on December 20, 1930. He was raised in Philadelphia with his siblings Joe, Jack and Dorothy (Sis). He grew up in Transfiguration Parish and attended West Catholic High School for Boys, class of 1948, where he was a cheerleader and a track and field standout. He attended St. Joe's University on a track scholarship for a brief period of time before enlisting in the U.S. Navy where he was honorably discharged in 1952. He married Dolores (nee Cunningham) and together had 8 children: M.J. Rogers, William, Jr. (Nancy), Anne (Steve) Andersen, Paul (Ann Marie), Celeste (Tricia), Colette (Joe) Dugan, Joanne (Kevin) Dolan, & Andrew (Meg). He has 15 grandchildren: Sarah. Nick, Brian, Erin, Kelly, Billy Watson (namesake), Andrew, Tori, Joe III and Billy Dugan (namesake), Quinn, Riley and Reagan, Madison and Alexa. The love of his life was his "Fair Lady" Dolores. He adored his wife, children and grandchildren. His commitment and dedication to his family was unparalleled. He believed that nothing was impossible if you tried. He also believed that if you wanted something done right, you should learn to do it yourself. He worked for the Philadelphia Electric Company for 38 years before he retired in 1990. Bill was a man of many talents who, while he was an electrician by trade, was a meticulous and talented craftsman. He had many nicknames ~ Bill, Billy, Buck, Pop, "old boy", & Papa Bear. His best friend and brother-in-law (Uncle Earl) had 4 words to describe him ~ "I'll be right over". He was the "go to guy". His children would say: he was selfless never selfish. He led by example not by shouting. He was patient even when we were petulant. He was economical in everything but his love. He was instructive without being preachy. He was self-aware not self-absorbed. He was generous without being showy. He was truly extraordinary while appearing to be ordinary. He was Bill Rogers, Sr. ~ Husband, Dad, Pop Pop, & Friend and we will truly miss him.
