William James Ross, 89 of West Chester, formerly of Philadelphia passed away on August 1, 2014.
William was a World War II Veteran. He was on the LST 283, which landed at Normandy Beach on D Day and was in the invasion of Southern France. During his military career William also landed in Italy, and Africa. After being honorably discharged after the war he was called back to serve additional military time in the Korean War.
Following William's military career, he then went on to serve 25 years as a Philadelphia Police Officer and was an active member of the Masons.
William was predeceased by his loving wife, Iris, (née Hoffman).
He was the loving father of Walter Kinsley, Iris Kinsley, the late David Kinsley, James W. Ross, Barbara Ross McGowan, Deborah Hocker, Nancy Zudans and William A. Ross. William also has many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He will be missed dearly by all of his family.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation 4:00-6:00 p.m. Thursday Eve at The Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA and to his Funeral Service at 5:00 p.m.. Interment will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery Friday.
