William R. Sherwood, Sr.

William Royce Sherwood, Sr., 95 of Drexel Hill, PA passed away on October 23, 2023.  He was born in Philadelphia, PA on December 25, 1927, the second of three children of the late Royce and Elizabeth (nee Zabriski) Sherwood.

Before returning to Drexel Hill, where he met the love of his life Joan and graduated from Upper Darby HS, he enjoyed his early childhood years in Brooklyn, NY, where his grandfather would take him on long walks through the neighborhood. William proudly served in the US Navy during WWII.  He worked for PECO for many years as Generation Control Room Operator at Chester Station before retiring as a Quality Control Inspector at the Limerick Nuclear Plant.  He retired to Avalon, NJ where he was a volunteer with the Fire Department taking pictures as part of the Fire Police Unit.  He enjoyed sailing, golfing, building model ships, puzzles and word games.  But most of all, he was delighted in spending time with his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his younger brother Donald and by his beloved wife of 67 years, Joan Tegler Sherwood.  As a loving father, he is survived by his children Sue Willson (the late Thomas III), John Sherwood (Dianne), William Sherwood (Sharon) and Mark Sherwood (Margie).   His grandchildren Amy, Thomas IV, Joshua, Jason, Brian, Kevin, Shelley, Daniel, Jasen, William III, Adam, Robert, Matthew, Mark Jr, Michael, Megan and Mary.  Also survived by his adoring great grandchildren Elizabeth, Anthony, Liam, Seamus, Ciaran, Bennett, Finnegan, Jason, Caroline, Mia, Nathan, William IV, Caleigh, Baylie, Rocco and Piper.  As well as his dear older sister Dottie.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing 7-9 pm, on Thursday, Nov 2, 2023 and 10:00-10:30 am on Friday, November 3, 2023 at the Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA 19082, followed by his Funeral Service at 10:30 am.  Interment SS Peter & Paul Cemetery.
